Telephony programming

Postby pedand » Mon Apr 18, 2005 8:59 am

I will probably be required to develop an application that can make outgoing calls and possibly accept incomming calls also. This is a completely new area for me and I am looking for tips on how to prepare myself for this. I am especially interested in good books or articles to get started, recommendable class libraries to use, any code snippets, or in fact anything that can make the start easier. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi,
I've never done telephony development myself, but you might try the steps that I usually take when learning a new area: (1) read the MSDN documentation (if any); and then (2) study others' source code.

So, first have a look at the TAPI docs...

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/tapi/tapi3/tapi_3_1_start_page.asp

And then have a look at the source code of TurboPower's Async Pro package...

http://sourceforge.net/projects/tpapro/

Also, this book (which might be a bit outdated) may prove useful...

Best of luck,

Thanks Damon.
Good advise as always. I've got the book and it's a bit old but still a good intro to telephony programming. Yes, MSDN is always a must. I'll have a look at AsyncPro also.
