I have been asked to make a software that will connect to a site, on the Web, with the following particularities:
1- able to compress some files in PKZIP 4.5 all in one file.
2- Use SOAP 1.1 ( I know, MS deprecated it)
3- the attached files in the zipped file should respect the DIME norm, and should be encoded in UTF-8 or Unicode, but UTF-8 is strongly prefered. The files in UTF-8 should include the BOM (Byte Order Mark)
4- It is strongly suggested to install WSE 1.0 SP1.

Now, a large part of it is gibberish for me. I have to read, and I know it won't be unclear for long. But time is the essence, so I ask for your help:

a) Where could I find a component for the PKZIP 4.5 compression?
b) How could I code my files in UTF-8, and how to use and respect the DIME norm?
c) WSE 1.0 SP1 is suggested for the Visual Basic programmers. Is it usefull for me?
d) please show me where I could get some docs about XML programming, DIME, WDSL (the web services I should use are supporting this)
e) How can I create and use a cookie on my system (it is in the specs)?

I do use Builder 6 Professionnal.

Helpful components

I don't know if this is what you are looking for or what but here are some usefull components that might help. They are all open-source and be found at Source Forge ( and were commecially sold by TurboPower.

Abbreva ( has the PKZip format.

LockBox ( has components for encoding but I don't know if that is what you are looking for.

Internet Professional ( has components for using the internet. Again I don't know if it has what you need.

At least these are a start.
